Bouncy ball creation and testing is a popular activity among lower grade levels. As a group we created several, made predictions, and compared the bounce of each one.

Although I have done this several times with out the experiment, i was thrilled to learn that it could be used to discuss following directions and accurate measurements. Many students have trouble with step-by-step instructions. In science, step-by-step instructions are essential!

This activity can be used to provide an introductory experience with lab safety, following directions and measurements as well as a possible experiment for graphing data.  These skills are invaluable to establish at the beginning of the school year.
